Riverton Park Tiny Home Village
We have a very special day coming up this Monday. Open Window School (https://www.openwindowschool.
On Monday, our volunteers will build four walls and a platform in the morning. Around 11 am, 42 sixth graders (!!) will be pulling into The Hope Factory. They will then watch our volunteers tilt up a home. Our volunteers will be done for the day, and then students from Open Window School will tour The Hope Factory and get the sixth grade version of “Storytime”
After lunch, we will bus down to Riverton Park Tiny Home Village. Pastor Jan will show the students their tiny home village. Then the students will be able to talk with some of the residents and ask them questions to get a better personal understanding of homelessness and how the tiny home villages are a part of the solution.
The sixth graders will then spend the rest of their week discussing how to end homelessness and writing down their ideas. On Friday, they will present their paper on how we should end homelessness. At that time, we will know if we are smarter than a sixth grader .
We will have plenty of photos of the event in our next newsletter, and if possible, a link to their paper. How fun is this!

ROTARY BLUE DENIM DAY
Last Saturday we hosted the spouses of the leadership of Rotarians from 10 districts in four western states and Canada. While their significant others had to sit through meetings all day, the spouses got to play with the cool tools!
Here’s a note from Kae Peterson, District 5030 Governor (Seattle) and host of the event: “Thank you so much from all the 10 districts at Blue Denim. Our group was truly moved and excited to have been part of this project. They came back to the group and on Sunday did a full presentation on their experience. Thank you again. K”
BELLEVUE BIG PICTURE SCHOOL
Starting tomorrow (Thursday), we will be hosting six high school interns from the Bellevue Big Picture School. The same six students will be here every Thursday throughout their semester. More photos and information in next week’s newsletter.
KCRHA’S FIVE YEAR PLAN
The King County Regional Homeless Authority has published the first draft of their five year plan to end homelessness. Here is a link to that draft:
https://kcrha.org/wp-content/
Of their total $2 BILLION BUDGET, this is what KCRHA has proposed for tiny home villages (page 38).
(No, this is not a typo.)
Today the Implementation Board for KCRHA met by Zoom, and Barb testified to this Board.
The Board only had 20 minutes set aside for testimony, so many were not able to testify. If you would like to comment to the Implementation Board, you may do so by emailing them at info@kcrha.org.
If you would rather fill out a feedback form (or do both), here is the link for that:
https://app.smartsheet.com/b/
We MUST let KCRHA know how much tiny home villages work. The more emails they receive, the greater impact we can have. If you have time, please email them with your personal stories of volunteering at The Hope Factory or in the tiny home villages. Tiny home villages work; we all know that. We must communicate this to their board (i.e., Marc Dones’ bosses.) Thank you in advance for taking the time to do this.
